One of my friends has just started her own blog; Chrysalis Kid. Head on over and say hello. The blog world can be daunting and encouragement is always a beautiful thing.
I have been thinking lately about blog names. I am always curious to find out how people came up with their blog names and what they mean. So I want to start something. Post on your blog what the significance is of your blog name, and then come here and leave a comment letting me know you have done it. The one which I randomly decide is the most gorgeous story will win one of my hand-knit scarves (just in time for winter) along with some brooches and whatever else I can find in my studio whilst I am packing it up. Now let's see if anyone actually does read this blog! I tried a PIF before but no-one really responded...
So the name createcraft came from the idea that the words create, craft and fashion all really mean the same thing. Aside from what we think of automatically when we hear these words, they all mean, quite simply, to make something. I love the idea of taking labels off what I do and the process simply being about "creating" or "crafting". createcraft operates as both a title and a statement. Hopefully it will encourage others to create, craft (ie. make), and to create craft.

Hello!
I am a reader of your blog :)
It’s true the blog world can be daunting. There’s so many talented people and amazing blogs out there you think who will even read mine what can I possibly put on there that is THAT exciting?
It took me over 6 months from discovering the world of blogland to actually start my own blog. It was all the ‘little birds’ (fellow bloggers) that were telling me of these great, websites, artists, craft books and opening up a whole new designing and creating that inspired my blog name. Being a person who is inspired (and excited!) by pretty and crafty things I needed a spot to collect all these images, ideas and webpages which were previously scribbled down on post it notes or saved to my computer and made little sense to me later on. I also tend to have many links to ideas, images etc that have inspired me on my page so I felt it only fair that my blog be dedicated to all that I had found because those sweet little bird(s) told me. so
:)
Hi Peta!
Just wanted to let you know that I love the idea for this give~away and I'm currently working on my What's~in~a~name story.
Have a great week. I hope the packing's going well.
=]
Done!
I've just posted my What's in a Name story on my blog and I now have my fingers crossed. =P
What a fun contest!
I posted about it on my knitting contest blog, WiKnit, and I added my story there too (although you don't need to add me into the prize drawing -- just thought it would be fun for my readers to know where the name came from).
well, i am jewish and always introducing single people to potential "friends". and i loved helping people match the perfect yarn to their projects when i was at the LYS. since the matchmaker in fiddler on the roof is yente, i became the yarn yenta. the funny thing is yenta is also the word for a gossip, what better to gossip about than yarn?
Hi! I'm fairly new to blogging, but my name is decades old. I'm posting my sordid story on my blog right now, and will link back here. I arrived thanks to WiKnit's contest blog. Great idea for a contest.
I posted a story! It's here
I've posted mine! I've also linked you.
Hi, Peta, I came on over from Inkberry Blue's blog, and was interested in the question, so I've posted a bit on my blog. I'm not sure if you were inviting new readers, or interested in your existing readers, but I enjoyed posting, and will enjoy reading where some of those fascinating, esoteric names came from. Thanks.
Mine's up at:

Sorry - deleted first attempt as permalink didn't work.
Hi, I came through Wiknit to you! i love some of the truly creative names I see on blogs, mine though is not so creative nor original. My nickname is Turtle, it started when friends would pick on me when we were scuba diving as they would empty their tanks and mine would still be half full. I am very comfortable under water, generally a mellow person, and when diving was known to play with the turtles. Aside from that we live on a lake and when hiking i can usually be found knitting near the water, so Turtle's Lake Knitting came to life!
I've posted the explanation of my blog title on ky blog:

Fun contest, I've enjoyed reading everyone's stories.
I saw your whats in a name contest on Wiknit's blog and thought it would be fun to tell the story of how I picked the name for my blog what a fun idea:) heres the link:

Thanks people, How completely overwhelming to get to the computer today and see 13 comments!!! I will check all your stories out. Greenishlady I am definitely interested in everyones stories not just new readers... So, I have just yesterday moved up to Perth from Bunbury and once I am sorted with an internet connection I will select a winner... And check out all these new blog discoveries.
Peta
I found you through Becky's blog. What a neat contest! I've posted my story at my blog: http://perpetualbeginner.blogspot.com/
It was a fun post to write regardless, so thank you for that.
I'm new here too... I came via the GreenishLady, who according to her comment here apparently came via someone else too...
Its a great idea for a giveaway and seems to be getting you new readers too!
I've written mine up here.
Hi there - it's my first time here... great idea for a post! My blog name is Bespoke By Brouhaha. "Brouhaha" is a corruption of my surname and describes my personality fairly well... the "Bespoke by" part came more recently. I'll post the story on my blog tomorrow and link back to you... :-)
OOOO, I love this Idea. I always wonder how people come up with their names. Beankenall is just me. my first mane and last smushed together. Knitting with four kids under foot is because my blog is about me trying to knit while dealing with four young children.
What a neat idea for a contest. Posted a link back here and my story.
Actually, I was named by a pediatrician I work with...who then became the pediatrician for my daughter's boys....didnt really think I liked it but when it came time to think up a blog name, it was perfect! Because I love being a granny and so Grannydani became my blog title!...altho to my grandkids, I am MeeMaw...named by my oldest grandson!
Hi Peta!
I came over from Imelda's blog.
It is interesting how we name our blogs. The explanation of mine is right in the banner...and I just posted a bit more about names!
My message up there appears to be wrong--here's a new link :)

Hey there!
I use Needlegrrl (on Ravelry, too) because I'm a knitter and an acupuncturist. And the grrl b=part emphasizes my non-traditional attitude. :) My blog's full name is "The Adventures of Needlegrrl" because I go on a lot of roadtrips and I liked the campy 1950's comicbook feel.
Hi Peta, I'm a new reader, I started my blog in 2006 not long after learning to spin, I came up with the name freestylefibre, as an expression of the freedom I have to dye and spin my own yarn, I also wanted a name that would work well on it's own as a label for m yarns and fibres too. It always makes me think of surfing, I don't surf but I've always had an affinity with the sea and waves, I suppose in some ways my blog is a place where I record and share my life, so the name is very important, almost like a home from home!
Thanks everyone for entering this comp. It has been awesome to go and check out all your blogs and read all your stories and I have definitely found some new faves, and fallen in love with freestylefibres yarns. I will always keep in mind the phrase 'knit and fall back in it' which i just love!! And I adore the way inkberryblue rolls off the tongue. But, there has to be a winner and it is KT Mac of alittlebirdtoldme.so . I love how her name pays homage to all the other creative blogs out there who inspire her and encouraged her to venture into blogland in the first place.
KT can you email your postal address to me at petrafanella@gmail.com .
Thanks!
Peta
